Recovery Panes

What is Recovery Panes?

Recovery Panes is a multi-phase community project involving those who have been impacted by addiction. Participants created a small encaustic painting representative of their personal experience, strength and hope. The complex elements of encaustic wax uniquely allowed a symbolic and cathartic exploration of their experiences. Participants also shared a short, written response to the process which is paired with their art in an accompanying catalogue

All individual paintings are joined to form a larger work, framed and presented to resemble large windows with each painting representing a single windowpane. The art is interactive- the individual panels are mounted on magnets, allowing the viewers to rearrange the paintings, symbolizing our need to change our perspective and move towards de-stigmatizing addiction.

Both the Recovery Panes and the accompanying catalogue will be shown at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts through March of 2012.

A reception will be held on Thursday, February 2nd, 5pm-9pm, to celebrate both Recovery Panes and 'Come to Your Senses', a showcase of encaustic paintings by local artists

Possible City Hall show?

I met with officials from the Mayor's office at p:ear yesterday--they LOVED the exhibit, and are really interested in it. Planning a City Hall show for next spring! More details to come!

The frames for all the 'panes' are done and beautifully at that. I spent yesterday gluing magnets to the back of 167 art panels and tomorrow will check each one to make sure it has enough stick-um power. There are a few minor changes to the catalog after previewing the proof, but otherwise it looks awesome. All the prints are matted and bagged, ready for sale. Only 4 days til it debuts...

Journal update.

Well, I have been working on the journal that will accompany the installation. All the images and response writings have been formatted and included... THANKYOUSAM. I have finally finished the introduction and directions for interaction. Of course, I don't want them to be too long and I don't want to forget anything important. Problem is, everything seems important to me right now. 8 days til the show opens. I can't believe it.

Friedrick

So my brother Lance, he loves birds that remind him of death. When I saw him for the first time for over a year, I was really happy to know he was alive and safe. It’s been over a month since he has disappeared without a word. And it freaks me out that he might have gone back to doing meth and end up in a gutter.
